Although the Thunderbird Country Club had great Golf Tournaments in the 1950's. In 1960 the Coachella Valley hosted the Palm Springs Invitational (later known as Bob Hope Classic) was held. In 1959, it was announced that this would be Golf's first Tournament with a $100,000 purse. Today, this is the Amex Open.
On September 12, 1963 the very first Palm Springs Tram trip took place. This fulfilled the vision Electrical Engineer Francis Crocker had which started in 1935 on a trip to Banning. Crocker spent many years of challenges, adversities, and setbacks trying to create the Tram. He never gave up and the Tram is still here!
In 1971 a brand new hospital opens up in the Coachella Valley in Rancho Mirage. Eisenhower Medial Center, today almost 3000 people work at Eisenhower Medical Center in Rancho Mirage.
With a recent off track wagering center recently opened at the Riverside County Fairgrounds in Indio. A new Bingo Palace opens up in 1991. The Indio Bingo Palace helps scratch the surface for future gambling in the Coachella Valley. Indio Bingo Palace is now Fantasy Springs Casino.
The Agua Caliente opens up and becomes the first full Casino in the Coachella Valley. Today, their are 3 Agua Caliente Casinos. Palm Springs, Cathedral City, and Rancho Mirage. The Casino and casinos that followed have brought additional jobs, tourists, and entertainment to the Coachella Valley and it's economy.
In 2009 the Coca Cola Bottling facility opened in Coachella. The Coca Cola Bottling facility employs more than 1000 people.
The first Chick - fil -a opened up in the Coachella Valley on July 14, 2022. Over the years, many Coachella Valley residents have enjoyed Chck - Fil - A in other Cities. Now, Coachella Valley residents have a Chick Fil -A of their own.
